BBC News is a Television department that is part of the BBC group of channels and programs. It is responsible for multiple programs on a daily basis that aim to collect and broadcast the latest breaking news to viewers. The department itself is the largest organization that is dedicated to news broadcasts and manages to produce around 120 hours of radio and television broadcasts each year.

This is not all though, in recent years, the ever evolving internet has meant that this plays an important role for BBC News. It now covers all of its biggest stories via their online website portal. This means that they are able to reach a bigger audience now than ever before.

The BBC News department has continued to grow over the years as it continues to enter into foreign markets. It now has news bureaus that total 44 which mean they are able to provide their services to around 240 different countries. This has probably been the result of Helen Boaden’s involvement since 2004, who is currently the director of the BBC News department.

The BBC have prided themselves in being a top news department for some time now. This has a lot to do with the fact that they have over 2,000 journalists, who make up the majority of the total 3,500 staff that are currently employed there. Bearing this in mind, the department controls a budget on an annual basis that is said to be in excess of £350 million, no small amount.

BBC News focus a lot of its efforts in the UK and is well known by the majority of people that view news channels. They have sub sectors throughout most major English regions, which derive from the regional centers that have been put into place. As well as England, regional centers are in place in the likes of Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales. Each of the above regions pride themselves in producing their own local news and obviously keep their viewers up to date with important sporting events.
